Location Ideas

This is a mind map of possible location ideas for my music video.

The style of this music video is narrative. It is a tribute to the actor 'Paul Walker' from the films 'Fast And Furious' who passed away. This video is for the actual Fast and Furious film which got released after the music video. It shows Paul Walker and his friend from the film within the actual video. It shows exclusive clips of the film as it wasn't out at the time. This will attract a big audience as people will want a preview of the film if they are fans. It also attracts a new audience who may like the singer(s) of the song and are attracted tot he film by the music video.There are a variety of shots in this video like pan and track shots on the cars as they are driving or when it shows the wide shot of the city from a distance. The cuts are slow pace on the slower parts of the song but then dramatically speed up as the songs speed increases. There are parts of the music video where the singers are miming to the song which brings a performance aspect to the video. Overall, I think this video is good as it has a variety of shots and different paced shots. It is also narrative and performative which could make it more interesting as other music videos as it offers variety.

Narrative and Performance

I made this powerpoint to compare the different genres of music like pop and rap. I also looked at the most successful music videos to get inspiration for my own music video. I then compared the difference between narrative and performance music videos.

Miss En Scene

I used Taylor Swifts 'Blank Space' as an example to see what miss en scene it uses whihc could give me inspiration for my own music video.

Setting/location- this music video was set in the countryside and the location was a big old

Fashioned mansion. The house seemed to be separated from the city and other people.

Characters/actors/stars- the star in this video was Taylor Swift as she is the singer of the song. There are only 2 people in this music video including Taylor herself. The other person is an actor who plays the role of her boyfriend within the video.

Props- there wasn’t many props used in this video as they mainly used the scenery to create the image. There were animals used in this video as props like the horses which occurred numerous times and the dogs. They used the painting easel when she was painting him and the picnic blanket and basket. Towards the end the apple was a featured prop.

Costume- Throughout he video the 2 people in it are constantly wearing outfits, which could be seen as ‘posh’ or ‘well dressed’. From wearing a ball gown to a long black fitted dress, Taylor is always really well dressed and the other character is wearing a suit for the majority of scenes. Even when they are riding the horses they are very well dressed with him in a jumper and shirt and her in a shirt.

Hair/makeup- The man in this video had no makeup on and his hair stayed the same through which could show that the breakup between hem had no effect on him. On the other hand Taylors makeup and hair was perfect up until they had their breakup and when this happened hair looked messy and she had her mascara running down her face. After this scene was the one with the apple where her makeup was perfect again which shows that she was over it and her feelings had now changed. Throughout her lipstick was always red.

Lighting- The lighting whilst the scenes are outside use natural lighting whereas when they are inside they are probably using studio lighting.

Practice Music Video

I acted as if this was my actual music video which I was going to create. It gave me practise for my actual music video which I am going to create. I gained the experience I needed to make my own music video and carry out the planning necessary without any help.

The Purpose Of Music Videos

For this piece of work I looked at different factors affecting music videos like creating a brand and marketing an image. This helped me decide different factors within my own music video.

It also helped me realise why certain music videos have certain aspects within them. It also showed me why music videos contribute towards todays society so much.

Examples of Genres, Sub Genres and Hybrids

I created a powerpoint of examples of diffrent genres, sub genres and hybrids. I did this to familiarise myself with the different genres and what a sub genre means and a hybrid means.
